Join us on Thursday, July 22^nd for the Fourth Annual Lyndale Garden Tour.  The theme for this year’s Garden Tour is the crafty gardener.  This year’s tour will include information on a different crafty project at each stop along the way.

The tour will start at 6:00 pm at the Blaisdell Rain Garden (32^nd & Blaisdell) and travel across the neighborhood, ending with a reception at Holly Reckel’s newly redone garden on 35^th and Garfield.  Tickets for the tour are $10 and include the tour, one raffle ticket, and the reception.  Additional raffle tickets are 1 for $3 and 2 for $5.  Tickets are available in advance at the LNA Office (3537 Nicollet Avenue) or here.   You may also purchase tickets on the day of the event at the Rain Garden starting at 5:30 pm.  Questions contact Mark at 612.824.9402 ex 16 or mark@lyndale.org.

The Nicollet Avenue Steering Committee will be hosting the first in series of public meetings on June 23rd concerning the reconstruction of Nicollet Avenue.  The meetings will be held at Zion Lutheran Church both meetings will have an identical format, to allow people to attend at the time most convenient for them.   The purpose of the meetings is to gather input from residents, businesses, property owners, and community members about issues along the corridor and people’s  vision for the future Nicollet Avenue.

The reconstruction of Nicollet Avenue is currently scheduled to begin in 2012 and will take two years to complete.  The construction process will involve a complete street and sidewalk reconstruction   The reconstruction of Nicollet Avenue will be both a challenging time for neighborhood businesses and residents as well as an important opportunity to plan for the future and to encourage investment in the community.

We strongly encourage businesses and residents of Nicollet Avenue to attend one of these meetings.  All community members are welcome to attend and share their thoughts.  The Steering Committee hopes you will give us your input on this incredibly important community project throughout the process.  See the Nicollet Avenue Construction Web Page for background information and for other ways to provide input on the project.

Join us for the Lyndale Neighborhood’s Association Annual (LNA) Meeting on Monday, June 28^th at Painter Park.  The annual meeting is your chance to see what’s been going on for the past year and what’s ahead for the next year.  At the meeting we will be electing five board members to two year terms and up to five alternates to one year terms.  All community members are eligible to serve on the board.

This is your chance to show off your dessert making skills by entering your favorite dessert into the Annual Dessert Contest.

Al's Rockabilly Quartet

Help the Lyndale Neighborhood rak up 1000 acts of kindness this June.  It’s easy, all you have to do to participate is be yourself.  Do a random act of kindness & let us know so we can post a flower in the LNA window in your honor.

What counts as a rak, any kind act.  Some examples of kind things you can do are:

Open the door for someone.

• Pay for someone’s coffee behind you.
• Give a helping hand when you see someone carrying a lot of stuff.
• Cook someone’s favorite breakfast you live with.
• Leave anonymous thank you notes to teachers.
• Invite a friend to the movies or dinner.
• Put change in a vending machine.
• Leave a book you have already finished somewhere for someone else to read.
• Drop off a toy or game at a homeless shelter.
• Send someone a small gift anonymously.
• Drop off flowers at your friend or neighbor’s house.

To record your act of kindness you can fill out one of the postcards all around the neighborhood, drop an email to kindness@lyndale.org, call the kindness hotline at 612.824.9402 ex 19.

Butter Bakery Café Cupping Event
Spend an afternoon at Butter Bakery Café learning about the roasting process, coffee bean varieties, and grinds, through cuppings from our friends at Roastery 7.  We will also have some Butter Bakery treats on hand to pair with the coffees.  Choose your favorite and help Butter pick out a new bean for it’s spring line-up.

Come join us for fun at the farm.  My mother has a hobby farm in Chanhassen (25 minutes from Lyndale.)  She is inviting 20 children and their parents to come out to the farm to ride a horse, get their picture taken, and have a light lunch.  We’ll also have some other fun activities going on.

The whole neighborhood is coming together for to help organize another great Lyndale Open House.  We’re hoping that everyone in the neighborhood can come and make this the biggest Open House yet.  Here’s what you need to get the most our of your Open House experience:

• Who should come – everyone, we have food and fun things to do for everyone in the neighborhood.
• When should you come – The Open House is on Thursday, March 25^th from 6:00 to 8:30pm.  We promise you’ll have a lot more fun if you come during the Open House than you will if show up at another time.
• What should you bring – yourself, the Open House itself is a free event, there is a suggested donation to cover food costs and there is the Silent Auction and Great Gatherings to sign up for, but those are optional things.
• Why should I volunteer – besides just getting the karma points and having fun you should volunteer because there’s talk about a special after party that’s just for volunteers.

Join us at January General Membership meeting for a legislative forum featuring Lyndale’s legislators.  This is the third year that LNA has invited in our legislators to talk with the community before the upcoming session about the issues they are going to be working on and what issues are important to the community.  It’s a great opportunity for everyone to get to know their elected officials and to provide their input on the upcoming legislative session.

The Lyndale Neighborhood Association (LNA) is committed to being a diverse community driven organization that brings people together to work on common issues to ensure all community members have the opportunity to live, work, and play in a safe, vibrant, and sustainable community.

• Developing a new strategic plan to guide the organization during the next three years.
• Starting the Lyndale Neighborhood Business Association to help improve the economic climate in the neighborhood and to create better connections between Lyndale’s businesses and residents.
• Continued transforming the gardens and parks around Horn Towers into safe, public green space through the Lyndale Youth and Family Safety initiative 2.0.
• Continued supporting great neighborhood events like the 12^th Annual Fish Fest, La Posada, and the Lyndale Open House.

Lyndale will celebrate La Posada on Sunday, December 13^th in the Lyndale School from 3:30 to 7:00 pm.  Las Mujeres Latinas en Accion of the Lyndale neighborhood are proud to organize the 12^th Annual la Posada celebration.

Before serving food we’ll sing the traditional La Posada song. We will serve traditional foods such as tamales, rice, beans, buñuelos, and beef franks for kids.   The Hosmer Music Series is partnering with us to present the incredible Mexico Lindo folklorico dancers again this year.  We are also bringing back Santa Claus, who will be there to meet the kids and pose for photos.  There will also be games and art activities for the kids.
