Urban Tree Walk & Survey

Tuesday, April 28th

Starts at 5:30 pm

Meet at the Blaisdell Rain Garden (32nd & Blaisdell)

The Urban Tree Project is a two to three year project, with a simple goal – maximize the tree plantings in the Lyndale Neighborhood so our community can enjoy the benefits of an urban forest for years to come.

The first step in the project is to conduct a tree survey to see where we’re missing boulevard trees in the neighborhood.  The committee will be conducting the survey on Tuesday, April 28th.  The committee and volunteers will be gathering at the Blaisdell Rain Garden (32nd and Blaisdell) at 5:30 pm for a quick orientation from the Minneapolis Park’s Forestry Department.

After the orientation, we’ll divide the neighborhood and volunteers up into small groups to conduct the survey.  We’re hoping to have enough people to cover the whole neighborhood in a couple of hours.

To sign up to help with the tree survey or with the Urban Forest Project contact Mark Hinds at 612.824.9402 ext 16 or mark@lyndale.org.

2009 Lyndale Open House

It’s finally time for one of the biggest and best Lyndale Events of the year – The Open House.  This year’s Open House will be on Thursday, March 19th at the Lyndale Community School (312 W 34th St.) from 6:00 to 8:30 pm. At this year’s Open House you’ll have the opportunity to figure out how you can be the change you want to be.

How do you become the change you want to be?  It starts by figuring out what you care about and how you want to improve our neighborhood.  Then you check out all the committee’s and other nonprofits who will be happy to get you plugged in.

It might be as simple as visiting the Crime & Drug Committee to see how you can help make the neighborhood safer or talking with the Environment Committee about how you can help make the neighborhood more sustainable.  Whatever you’re passionate about, there will be something for you.

This year’s Open House will feature more kid’s activities than ever before.  We’re also really excited about the great support we’re getting from local  restaurants.  This year we’ll be featuring food from: Butter, Champions, It’s Greek to Me, Gigi’s, El Meson, Uptown Pizza, Anodyne, Pizza Luce, Joy’s Kitchen, El Paraiso, Los Andes.

Want to get a head start on the silent auction & raffle, check all of the items we already have on our 2009 Silent Auction and Raffle Items list.

We’re also really excited about the Great Gatherings for this year.  Here is a quick list of this year’s Great Gatherings: An Evening in Spain, Lyndale’s Amazing Race, Cementing Memories for your Garden Parkway, Locavore, Oktoberfest, Ponside Morning Yoga, the Garfield Gala, Crafty Day, a Fall Fish Fry, and last year’s very popular Fun on the Farm Day. You can get a complete list and descriptions of events here.

We’re still looking for more Great Gatherings and volunteers for the event itself.  If you’re interested in helping out contact Sarah at sarah@lyndale.org or 612.824.9402 ext 15.
