After discussion at the November Board and General Membership Meetings, the LNA Board choose to send the following letter to the Mayor and City Council on the proposed 2012 City of Minneapolis Budget.  You can download a copy of the letter here.  To learn more about the City's proposed budget go to http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/finance/ to contact the Mayor or City Council Members go here.

As part of its 2011 budget discussions the Minneapolis City Council chose to take action on a proposal that will have a serious and far reaching effect on neighborhoods across Minneapolis. The proposal related to changes in neighborhood programming was introduced at the last minute by the Mayor, Council Member Hodges, and Council President Johnson without any public input. Most people found out about the proposal, prior to its introduction in Committee, from a StarTribune article released Tuesday morning reporting that a budget deal had been reached. The original proposal introduced at the Tuesday, December 7th Ways and Means/Budget Committee meeting would have frozen any neighborhood expenditures through NRP pending legislative action.
