Nicollet Construction Updates

The City of Minneapolis is preparing to reconstruct Nicollet Avenue between Lake Street and 40th Street for a total length of 1.2 miles. The project will include new pavement, with new curb and gutter, sidewalk, turf boulevards, trees, and utility work as needed.  The project is planned to be constructed in the 2012 and 2013 construction seasons.

Beginning in 2012 and continuing in 2013, Nicollet Avenue from Lake to 40th Streets will be reconstructed. Road reconstruction will include much more than a modified street design, but will also include work to the underground storm sewer, repair of the water main and sanitary sewer, and upgrade traffic signals.
The City of Minneapolis hosted two Nicollet Avenue construction meetings for residents and businesses on October 12th. These meetings followed the roadway layout approval by the City Council on September 2nd, which established the street width and curb locations.

Wednesday, October 12th
Two meetings – 9:30 am and 5:30 pm
Minneapolis Police 5th Precinct – Community Room
3101 Nicollet Ave

The focus of the meetings will be on construction staging, lighting, and landscape elements (e.g., trees, boulevard grass, public art), as well as providing an update on the roadway design. The same information will be presented at both meetings. The format will be similar to the previous meetings, with a presentation by the project team, followed by time to review project information and ask questions.

The plans for a newly constructed Nicollet Avenue took a step forward this week.  On Tuesday, August 23rd the City's Transportation and Public Works Committee approved the 30 percent layout for the project.  The 30 percent layout established things such as street width, turning lanes, stop lights, etc... that allow the design team to move forward with the final design for the project.

At the July 27, 2011 Nicollet Avenue Steering Committee meeting the City of Minneapolis released updated layout information for Nicollet Avenue.

The Steering Committee for the Nicollet Avenue Reconstruction project swung back into action this March. At its March 3rd meeting the committee got updates from the City, including info that the block from Lake to 31st will now be reconstructed with the rest of the project. It had been scheduled to just receive a mill and overlay until crews assessed its current conditions. The City presented some initial design work for the project that showed a very early layout.
