Open House Updates

To plan this year’s Lyndale Open House on Friday, April 11th, LNA is bringing together community organizations, neighborhood leaders, and volunteers.

Since the Open House is a chance for community members to connect with local community organizations and LNA’s committees about what they’re working on, what they offer, and how to be involved, it’s a great way for us to pull together the organizations who make up the fabric of our community to make sure this annual event is vibrant and fun!

This year's Lyndale Open House will be held on Friday, April 11th.  So save the date for one of the biggest and best commuity events in Lyndale this year.

At the Open House you'll have a chance to connect with local community organizations and LNA’s Committees about what they're working on, what they offer, and how you can get involved. You’ll get a chance to try interesting food from local restaurants at the Taste of Lyndale and play games with your kids at the carnival.

This year’s Lyndale Open House, held Friday, March 22 at the Lyndale Community School, was quite a hit! Attendees explored the many “intersections” of Lyndale, the places we eat, shop, and meet one another around our neighborhood. Many neighborhood restaurants provided food from around the globe as a part of this year’s Taste of Lyndale. Residents were able to enjoy everything from Sonny’s Ice Cream to spanakopita to mini-eclairs!

I’m excited for my first Open House at Lyndale! We’re gearing up for a fun time on Friday, March 22nd from 6:00-8:30 at the Lyndale Community School. This year’s theme will be Intersections. We’ll be thinking of all the ways our multi-cultural community connects. We’re thinking of places we run into each other—on street corners, out for dinner at Pat’s Tap, shopping Victoria’s and the Family Dollar, and at Painter Park. We’re thinking of the food we can share across cultures. In spite all of our differences, our theme this year is about what we have in common and the way we connect. Intersection.

The Silent Auction is going to have many fun and interesting things to choose from again this year at the Open House, so bring your credit card, check book, or stash of cash.  This is a great way to donate to LNA and go home with some very useful gifts.

As of our March newspaper deadline we have had many great items donated.  A few of the items we have so far: gift cards from Alternative Bike & Board, Amigo Auto Service, Dulono’s, Pizza Luce, Galactic Pizza, Butter, Curran’s, Social House, and Saints’ tickets. Over the next few weeks I will be busy picking up many more donations.

Thanks to all those who so faithfully donate gifts for our Silent Auction each year. It would not be such a fun and fruitful event without your help.

Lyndale’s annual Open House is coming up and we need you to make it a success.  This event draws around 350 people every year and connects community members with programs, services, and neighbors in a fun and festive atmosphere.  Open House staple “Taste of Lyndale” will be there with samplings of delicious fares from the neighborhood and our carnival games will again make an appearance.

Shifts are an hour and fifteen minutes long, leaving you plenty of time to enjoy the event, get your grub on, and make a few bids at the silent auction.  Currently our volunteer needs are:

This year’s Lyndale Open House will be on Friday, March 22nd from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at the Lyndale Community School (34th and Grand Avenue).  Yes, we said Friday, March 22nd.

After a lot of discussion the LNA Board decided to move the Open House to Friday this year as an experiment to see if we can take this great Lyndale event to the next level.  One of the things we often hear from families with young kids is that they already have planned activities on Thursdays or that they need to head home early to get everyone to bed for school the next day.  We’re hoping that by moving the event to Friday that more families will be able to come and have more fun.

Lyndale residents had a ticket to travel the community Thursday evening, March 22. “Passport to Lyndale,” the theme for Lyndale Neighborhood Association’s annual open house at Lyndale Community School, included global food and games, as well as opportunities to meet new friends and learn more about the diverse neighborhood.

“A big part of what we wanted to do is highlight the incredible diversity in the neighborhood and how you can learn so much about the world just by getting to know your own community,” LNA Executive Director Mark Hinds said.

About the Lyndale Open House

The event will include fun carnival games, great food from local restaurants , a chance to find out what's happening from all of the organizations serving the neighborhood, and a silent auction.  All proceeds from the event benefit the Lyndale Neighborhood Association.  For more information or to get involved contact Jennifer Arnold at 612.824.9402 x 12.

Volunteer Special

Party People:
Help us carry out our Dia del Niño for 2014!  This child-centric favorite features everything that you need for a great afternoon of family fun.  Meet new neighbors, say hello to old ones, and perhaps even win a dance off sponsored by clowns.  That sounds like a good day.  A shift for every talent, a task for everyone.  We need help in set up, food service, activity associates, tear down, and general merry making.  Contact to join the fun!
