Although Spring hasn’t really sprung and the plants are yet to bloom, art will be in bloom, literally.  Join the Lyndale Social Club for a docent led tour of Art in Bloom at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts on May 3rd.  This annual event brings floral arrangers and masterpieces together in an inspired arrangement of fresh, beautiful, and fragrant flowers.

Finding a home at InnerCity Tennis
When Ray Ranallo retired, he suddenly had a lot of free time on his hands and needed to find something to fill that time with. He remembered playing tennis socially as a child, so he decided to give it a shot.

A few years after beginning to play tennis again, Ray found that the sport is also a vehicle to impact youth.  He found a fit with the non-profit organization InnerCity Tennis (ICT) and has continued to volunteer with them for almost 20 years.

I first met Lieutenant Todd Loining at Lyndale’s La Posada celebration in December of 2013. He came to get to know the community in the 5th Precinct, and he greeted me with his characteristic enthusiasm and sincerity. From the moment he found out he was being promoted to Inspector, Loining has made it his priority to get out in the community.

In Lyndale, neighbors are from different cultures and speak multiple languages; we do not like to try new things if we can keep our ordinary routines going. The toughest challenge we face, and fear to face, is leaving our comfort zone, speaking a new language, or just putting on others’ shoes for few minutes.

Volunteer Special

Party People:
Help us carry out our Dia del Niño for 2014!  This child-centric favorite features everything that you need for a great afternoon of family fun.  Meet new neighbors, say hello to old ones, and perhaps even win a dance off sponsored by clowns.  That sounds like a good day.  A shift for every talent, a task for everyone.  We need help in set up, food service, activity associates, tear down, and general merry making.  Contact aryca@lyndale.org to join the fun!
